months. He became a school teacher and at the age of 21 moved to La Porte, IN where he continued to teach. His next move took him to Boone Co, IL where he also taught school and met his future wife. Eliza Jane Morse was born 25 Sep 1825 in Truxton, NY and moved with her parents, Philip (ca 1802) and Hannah (ca 1805), to Illinois when she was 18 years old. She married James Barclay Schenck in 1850 and later moved to Iowa. They made their home in Frankville where they had eight children: Henry Wayne, Charles Elwin, Therm Philip, Melvin Dwight, Fred Wellington, Nellie Jane (b. 6 Feb 1867), Lillian Inez and Judson D. James was a farmer. Eliza was a devoted member of the M.E. Church for 80 years. James died 15 Jun 1877 in Winneshiek Co when he fell off a ladder as he was painting a local church. For a number of years after his death, Eliza made her home in Junction City, OR. Both are buried in the Pagin Cemetery in Frankville. I believe James had a brother, Robert, who also lived in Winneshiek Co during the same time.

Nellie Jane Schenck married Gerial Kinzer Flack (b. 20 Oct 1858) on 18 May 1887 in Dakota City, IA where he had his first assignment in the Methodist ministry. They later moved to Chicago, IL where they had five children: Grace Lola, Gene, Marjorie May, Helen Marie (b. 4 Aug 1897) and Clarence Elbert. Gerial continued in the Methodist ministry and held several prominent positions within the Chicago metropolitan area. Gerial died 13 Jul 1932 and Nellie died 28 Sep 1944. They are buried in Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie, IL.

Helen Marie, my grandmother, attended the University of Chicago and was introduced to Frederick Alfred Hill, Jr. (b. 1 May 1888) at an Austin High School reunion party in Chicago in 1922. His father, Frederick A. Hill, Sr. was a prominent real estate developer who built “Hilltown” on the west side of Chicago in the late 1800’s. They were married by the Rev. G.K. Flack at the Blackstone Hotel in Chicago on 12 Sep 1922 and resided in the Chicago area. Helen was a homemaker who was involved in charitable work and Alfred worked in his father’s real estate firm prior to opening a Packard automobile dealership in Oak Park, IL. In addition, they had a farm in Hebron, IL and spent summers at a home built by the Hill family on Torch Lake in Bellaire, Ml. They raised three sons: Frederick Alfred III, John Flack and David Eugene. Alfred died 14 May 1946 and Helen died 21 Aug 1987. Both are buried in the Forest Home Cemetery in Forest Park, IL.

My father, David Eugene, married Judith Jane Hedge on 30 Jun 1956 in Jamestown, IN where she was born and raised. Her family ran the local International Harvester farm implement dealership in Jamestown where her father, Olin Lawrence Hovermale Hedge, was the mayor for many years. Returning to the Chicago area after a brief time in the armed services, they had three sons: David Eugene, Jr., Steven Lawrence and John Wesley. Judith, a homemaker for many years, owns and operates a resort on Torch Lake and David, a former salesman for Mack Trucks, is currently an independent real estate investor.

I, Steve Lawrence Hill, grew up in Hinsdale, IL and attended Indiana University in Bloomington where I majored in business and met my future wife. Jill Elizabeth Frede, daughter of John Frederick Frede and Janice Beth Quigle, was born in Evanston, IL and grew up in Northbrook, IL. We were married on 9 Aug 1986 at the Village Presbyterian Church in Northbrook and have two daughters: Elizabeth Caroline and Olivia Katherine.
